I’m an avid photographer (Canadian/American) living in Jerusalem. I enjoy documenting the city, not so much as a tourist, but rather one who has lived here for more than 40 years.
Aside from my real job, my hobbies are learning about the intricacies of the Old City of Jerusalem, specializing in architectural styles over the ages (Greek, Roman, Byzantine, Arab, Mameluke, Ottoman, European. I spend my weekends roaming the Old City with maps and publications, visiting churches, monasteries, synagogues, and madrassas in all 4 quarters of the city, and beyond. If you are interested in a special walking tour, write to me (below) and I’ll get back to you immediately.
If the desert is more your style, we can go out in my 4×4 and look at the Judean Desert and the Dead Sea (and swim). With my 4×4, I can go pretty much anywhere and can easily accommodate a small group.
I love the roam the city, love the colors, and scents, the diversity, and the complexity.
Jerusalem is also surrounded by desert on its eastern side, and by forests on the western side. I love to hike these areas – just me, my equipment, and my best friend: my dog Frisbee.
I am fascinated by the history of the city, and love taking people on tours of our amazingly complex city. Of course, everything in Jerusalem touches on politics and the division between east and west of the city, between the religious and the secular, between the Jews, the Muslims, and the Christians, and between the have and the have-nots.
There is no greater enjoyment for any photographer than the opportunity to shoot with others. So, if you’re coming to Jerusalem, and want to shoot — drop me a line!
Are you coming to Jerusalem? In 2017 I started a local photography club here in Jerusalem. We meet monthly, and we are always happy to meet shooters from anywhere. Give us a shout at 5046Jerusalem AT gmail.com.
